Reverse: the reverse of the coin depicts Britain standing firm in the British Isles, holding the staff of Neptune. The image of a standing Britain appeared on coins more than 2000 years ago during the Roman Empire, under the Emperor Hadrian. The coin is embossed with the technical specifications 'ONE OUNCE FINE GOLD' and the year of issue '2008'.
Obverse: the obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II, around which are the words 'ELIZABETH II D G REG F D' and the denomination '100 POUNDS'.
About the coin: Britannia gold coins have been minted since 1987. This gold coin was issued by the Royal British Mint as a counterweight and rival to the popular Krugerrand gold coin.
